Routine Dental Exams at Impact Dental Centre

Routine dental exams

Routine dental exams are the easiest way to stay ahead of dental problems and keep your smile healthy long term. During your visit, we check your teeth, gums, and bite for early signs of decay, gum disease, wear, and other concerns, then recommend clear next steps. Regular exams help catch small issues before they become painful, complex, or costly.

How often you should come in

Most patients benefit from exams every six months, though some may be seen more or less frequently depending on cavity risk, gum health, and existing dental work. We will recommend an interval that fits your needs, not a one size fits all schedule.

What we check during an exam

Your dentist will perform a thorough evaluation of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health. We look for cavities, cracks, signs of infection, gum inflammation, and changes to existing fillings or crowns. We also assess your bite and jaw function, and can screen for concerns such as clenching or grinding that may impact long term comfort.

X rays and diagnostic imaging

When appropriate, we take dental X rays to see what is happening beneath the surface, including between teeth and around the roots and jawbone. This helps us detect issues early, confirm a diagnosis, and plan treatment with accuracy. Imaging is recommended based on your history and risk factors, not automatically at every visit.

Cleaning and prevention

Routine exams are often paired with a professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar buildup and polish the teeth for a fresh, smooth feel. Preventive care like this supports healthier gums, lowers cavity risk, and helps maintain your results between visits. We will also offer practical guidance on brushing, flossing, and any targeted products that can make home care easier and more effective.

Routine ExamsFrequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? We're happy to help. If you don't see what you need below, email us at info@impactdental.ca or call 604-954-1823. We'd love to hear from you.

How Often Should I Have a Dental Exam?

We recommend a comprehensive exam every 6 months for most adults and children. Patients with specific dental concerns may benefit from more frequent visits. Regular exams catch problems early when they're simpler and less expensive to treat.

What Happens During a Routine Dental Checkup?

Your visit includes a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and mouth, along with digital X-rays to check for hidden issues. We screen for cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, and bite problems. A professional cleaning is typically included.

How Long Does a Dental Exam and Cleaning Take?

A combined exam and cleaning appointment usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. If additional X-rays or treatments are needed, it may take slightly longer. We respect your time and keep appointments running on schedule.

Why Are Regular Dental Exams Important?

Many dental problems — including cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer — develop without obvious symptoms. Regular exams let us detect and address issues at their earliest stage, saving you time, discomfort, and money in the long run.

How Much Does a Dental Checkup Cost?

The cost depends on the services included (exam, X-rays, cleaning). Most dental insurance plans cover preventive visits, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) covers routine exams for eligible Canadians. Contact us for a detailed estimate.
