Root canal
Root canal treatment is designed to save a tooth that has become infected or severely damaged deep within. Rather than extracting the tooth, we carefully remove the infected tissue inside, clean and disinfect the canal, and seal it to prevent further problems. With modern techniques and anesthesia, root canal therapy is a comfortable, effective way to relieve pain and preserve your natural tooth.
Request AppointmentWhen a root canal is needed
A root canal may be recommended when decay or damage has reached the inner pulp of the tooth, causing infection, inflammation, or persistent pain. Common signs include severe toothache, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling around the tooth, or darkening of the tooth. Early treatment can prevent the infection from spreading and save the tooth from extraction.
What to expect during treatment
After numbing the area with local anesthetic, we create a small opening in the tooth to access the infected pulp. Using specialized instruments, we carefully remove the damaged tissue, clean and shape the canals, then fill and seal them with a biocompatible material. In most cases, a crown is placed afterward to restore the tooth's full strength and appearance.
Pain management and comfort
Modern root canal treatment is far more comfortable than many patients expect. With effective anesthesia and precise techniques, most patients feel little to no discomfort during the procedure. Post-treatment soreness is usually mild and short-lived, manageable with over-the-counter pain medication and simple aftercare instructions.
Aftercare and follow-up
After treatment, avoid chewing on the treated tooth until your permanent crown is placed. We schedule follow-up visits to confirm healing and ensure the tooth is responding well. With a proper restoration and good home care, a root canal-treated tooth can last as long as your other natural teeth.

What Is a Root Canal and Why Would I Need One?
A root canal treats infection or damage inside a tooth's pulp — the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels. It's needed when decay, a crack, or trauma allows bacteria to reach the pulp, causing pain or an abscess. The treatment saves the natural tooth rather than requiring an extraction.
Is Root Canal Treatment Painful?
Modern root canal therapy is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. We use local anesthesia to ensure you're completely numb during the procedure, and most patients report feeling immediate relief from the toothache that brought them in.
How Long Does a Root Canal Take?
Most root canals are completed in one to two appointments, each lasting about 60 to 90 minutes. The exact time depends on the tooth's location and the complexity of the root structure.
What Should I Expect After a Root Canal?
You may experience mild tenderness for a few days, which over-the-counter pain relievers can manage. Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until your permanent restoration is placed. Most patients return to normal activities the same day.
Will I Need a Crown After Root Canal Treatment?
In most cases, yes. A crown is recommended after a root canal to protect and strengthen the treated tooth since it can become more brittle over time. We'll discuss the best restoration option during your treatment.
