CDCP: What You Need to Know About Canada's New Dental Plan

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal program designed to make dental care more accessible for Canadians who don't have private insurance. At Impact Dental Centre, we're proud to accept CDCP — and we want to make sure you understand how to use it.

Who Qualifies for CDCP?

The CDCP is available to Canadian residents who:

• Have an adjusted family net income under $90,000
• Do not have access to dental insurance (private or employer-sponsored)
• Have filed their tax return for the previous year
• Are a Canadian resident for tax purposes

Eligibility is being rolled out in phases. Currently, seniors aged 65+, children under 18, and persons with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate can apply. Coverage for all remaining eligible Canadians is expected to follow.

What Does CDCP Cover?

The plan covers a wide range of dental services, including:

• Preventive care — Exams, cleanings, X-rays, fluoride treatments
• Restorative care — Fillings, crowns, root canals
• Surgical services — Extractions, oral surgery
• Prosthodontics — Dentures (complete and partial)
• Periodontal services — Scaling, root planing

Co-payment amounts depend on your family income:

• Under $70,000: No co-pay — services are fully covered
• $70,000–$79,999: 40% co-pay
• $80,000–$89,999: 60% co-pay

How to apply

1. Visit the Government of Canada CDCP page or call 1-833-537-4342
2. Complete the application with your personal and tax information
3. Once approved, you'll receive a CDCP member card
4. Bring your card to your appointment — we'll handle the rest
